Here Are Some Great Golf Tips

by Lee MacRae

Here are some great tips to help improve the various aspects of your golf game.

Once you hit a shot you must stop and read what you just did and you must read it correctly. You must be in a balanced finish to read it properly, so you can check your alignment in case the shot is off line. As you stand in a perfectly balanced finish and watch your ball, ask yourself: how does my balance feel, how was the brush, how was the path, was the clubface in the correct position, and did I hit it in the center of the clubface? Then, either focus more on what is missing, or play it and go fix it after the round. You will only be able to accomplish 8 to 10 perfect shots per round, so be mentally prepared!

Keep the angle on your leading hand. Many amateurs tend to flip the hands forward in an effort to get the ball in the air, but this only retards the effort of having good equipment. The leading hand (left hand for most players, right hand for southpaws) should be angled down towards the ball on the downswing. It's like you are hitting the ball with the back of left hand. If your left hand is flipping up on the downswing, your contact will not be solid and you will get consistent misses with your wood. This tip also starts the ball low and lets its climb on its own through your generated power.

At the top of the backswing, there are several helpful checkpoints for achieving more distance: full upper body coil, solid base with your lower body, left knee turns past the golf ball and good, wide extension with the arms.

We hope these simple tips help you to drive the ball straighter and farther. And that will happen if you take them with you to the driving range and work on them diligently. Use them whenever you meet the specific situation on the faiway, the bunker or on the putting green and see your success happen.

Mental Game Tip
Since I'm not a psychologist I will not try to get deeply into how the mind works during a game of golf -- who knows anyway? -- everybody's different smile But whether you call it Golf Psychology, or Sport Psychology, or The Mental Game, The Mental Side of Golf, Trying to Get into the Zone, whatever you call it, from my experience the mental side of the game of golf really boils down to something simple: The most important thing you can do mentally to give yourself the best possible chance of success is to focus your attention on what you want to have happen.

Build An Athletic Platform
Developing a powerful and consistent golf swing always starts with the address position. Tension should be avoided at all costs. Instead, the setup should have a light and bouncy feel that gets you ready to move freely in an athletic way. Tension restricts the body from moving properly and requires the hands and arms to play too active a role in the swing. Rehearse your setup carefully, and your swing will improve.

Putting
Very few top golfers break their wrists when they putt. Instead they let their arms hang loosely and hold the putter lightly so both hang like a pendulum from the shoulders.

Harrington hopes Open exam leads to Masters joy

Wed, 09 Apr 2008 00:00:01 +0100

While Tiger Woods has given the outright betting to win the Masters a top-heavy feel, the presence of Padraig Harrington has provided the "leading European" market with a similar balance problem. If the bookmakers' even-money caution suggests there is only one man who can win this week, then there is also a heavy hint that only one of Nick Faldo's Ryder Cup team is capable of launching a realistic challenge. Harrington is as low as 20-1 to don his continent's first Green Jacket in nine years, while Justin Rose is the next best-priced at odds as high as 40-1. In other words the wily Irishman is twice as likely to prevail as the much-heralded young Englishman. And Harrington believes he knows why.
